Alternatives to Apache OFBiz

There is no single replacement for Apache OFBiz, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What there is: products that beat it on one specific thing. Each section below answers a different reason for switching, so start with the reason that applies to you.

For context, Apache OFBiz is a manufacturing erp product. Real MRP under an Apache license, for teams with developers to spare. Its weakest points, in our reading, are: any small shop without a development team. this is the highest-effort option in the directory by a distance, and anyone who needs to be running this quarter.

If you are switching for: simpler for makers

Less to set up and less to learn for a very small shop.

    • Shops that want to own their system outright and never pay a per-seat bill again
    • Manufacturers who need accounting, purchasing and production in one place rather than three subscriptions
    • Teams with someone technical who can run a server or manage a hosting partner

ERPNext ships as a finished application a small manufacturer can configure; OFBiz is closer to a framework that asks for development work in return for control.

Before you switch anything

  • · Check the export path out of your current system before you commit to the next one.
  • · Price the new system for your real team size and the modules you need, not the headline tier.
  • · Migration is usually the expensive part, and almost nobody budgets for it.
