Privacy
There are no visitor accounts on this site, no tracking cookies, and nothing you do here is sent to a software vendor.
What we do not collect
- No visitor accounts, so no passwords and no profile for you.
- No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- No finder answers, filters or comparisons passed to a vendor as a sales lead.
Your answers live in the address bar
The guided finder, the directory filters and the comparison page keep their state in the page address, so a link reproduces exactly what you were looking at. It also means anyone you send the link to sees the same answers. Each page load sends that address, answers included, to our server, where it can appear in the request log described below. And your browser history keeps it like any other address. None of it is stored in a cookie or an account.
What we do collect
Form submissions. If you report a correction or suggest a product, we keep what you send: your name, email address, your relationship to the product, your company and job title if you gave them, what you wrote, the links, and any screenshots or PDF files you attached. We also record the IP address and browser the submission came from, to deal with spam.
- Where it is kept. On our own server. It is not passed to a form service, a vendor or anyone else. If a notification service is switched on, it is told only that a submission arrived, for which product, and from which kind of sender. It is never sent your name, your email or your text.
- Who sees it. The editors. Attachments are never published and cannot be reached from a public address.
- What it is used for. Checking the claim and, if we need to, asking you a follow-up question. Your email is not added to a mailing list and not used for anything else. If a correction is accepted, the record changes and cites the public page that supports it, not you.
- How long. Up to 24 months after the submission is closed, so we can show why a record changed. Then it is deleted automatically, files included. The database keeps a point-in-time restore window of seven days, so a deletion can be undone for that long and no longer.
- Deleting it sooner. Email corrections@mrpdirectory.com with your reference and we will delete the submission and its files.
The editors’ sign-in. The page where editors review submissions is behind a sign-in, which uses one cookie. It is set only for an editor who signs in, never for a visitor.
Aggregate usage. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not fingerprint visitors or follow them across sites. It records page views and page performance in aggregate, enough to see which pages are read and whether they load quickly. It does not record what you type into the search box or the finder.
Server logs. The site runs on Cloudflare, which can record each request, including the page address, your IP address and your browser’s user agent, for operational purposes such as spotting errors and abuse. We do not use those logs to profile visitors.
Outbound links
Links to vendor sites are marked and open in a new tab. Once you follow one, that vendor’s privacy policy applies, not ours. We do not pass any information about you along with the click.
Affiliate links
There are none at present. If that ever changes, affected links will be clearly disclosed at the point of the link, and, as set out in our methodology. They will not affect ranking, classification or editorial content.
