Food Connex
by CAI Software
Food distribution and processing software that runs alongside QuickBooks, covering value-add production, catch weight and lot aging. Aimed at small to mid-sized food businesses, including seafood and meat operations that cut and pack to order.
Why it is classified this way
We call this a Light manufacturing product. Has bills of materials or recipes, consumes stock when you build, and tracks production, but time-phased planning is not verified.
It is not labeled Full MRP because we have not verified that it accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule; nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming; explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials; uses lead times or required dates; and produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations. That is a statement about the evidence we found, not a claim that the product is weak, see the capability table and the sources below.

Best for
- Food businesses that both make and distribute, since the product covers the whole path
- Operations selling variable-weight products, where catch weight handling is not optional
- Small food companies already running QuickBooks who do not want to replace it
Not a fit when
- Anyone needing a published price, since CAI quotes on request
- Shops wanting recipe-driven batch manufacturing, which this does not describe
- Anyone who needs verified time-phased planning, which is not documented
Pricing facts
What it costs to do manufacturing in this product.
No published price
This vendor does not publish pricing, so you cannot compare it against anything here without contacting them. We will not estimate a figure.
What moves the real bill
- No published price. You have to contact the vendor, which usually means a sales call.
Pricing detail
No published pricing; the plan options section on the product page is only a video. Budget for QuickBooks alongside it, since the product is designed to work with QuickBooks rather than replace it, and QuickBooks is priced by Intuit, not CAI. CAI also sells Minotaur, a separate food processing product with its own general ledger, payables and receivables, so confirm which you are being quoted.

Planning
Working out what to buy or make, and when.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Accepts dated demandYou can tell it what is due and when, sales orders with dates, a forecast, or a production schedule. | Partial | Purchase orders are raised directly from sales orders, so live demand drives buying. No forecast or master schedule is described.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: caisoft.com › Food connex erp(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Nets against stock on handIt subtracts what you already have before telling you to buy more. | Partial | An available-quantity figure nets allocations and scheduled receipts: "Gain immediate insight into quantities available. Automatically adjust inventory as products are scheduled for receipt or assigned to sales or work orders." No requirements calculation is described; buying is driven by sales orders and reorder points.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: caisoft.com › Food connex erp(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Counts incoming ordersIt knows about purchase orders and production orders already placed, so it does not tell you to order twice. | Partial | The vendor states: "Gain immediate insight into quantities available. Automatically adjust inventory as products are scheduled for receipt or assigned to sales or work orders." Scheduled receipts adjust available inventory. Whether planning then avoids re-ordering them is not documented. Checked 2026-09-14.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: caisoft.com › Food connex erp(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Uses lead timesIt works backwards from when you need something to when you must order or start it, using supplier and production lead times. | Partial | Supplier lead time feeds reorder points, not dated order suggestions: "Calculate average daily usage of materials and set reorder points based on supplier lead times, historical or seasonal-based sales, number of days' supply to stock, and other criteria." No order-by date worked back from demand is described.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: caisoft.com › Food connex erp(opens in a new tab)Question this |

Editorial notes and cautions
Things we would want a friend to know before buying.
- Food Connex is described as serving distributors, processors and manufacturers alike. The manufacturing side is value-add production and cut-and-pack rather than recipe batching, so check the fit if you formulate.
Evidence and verification
Read from the vendor's product page, which is specific about catch weight, yields and purchasing. On planning it describes only reorder points set from lead times and usage, with no time-phased calculation. Classed as light manufacturing rather than batch process on that basis: it makes and packs to order rather than formulating. Food Connex and Minotaur are separate CAI products. The vendor says: "Food Connex ERP offers cloud-based software built for food distributors and processors, providing industry-specific solutions such as catch weights, traceability, labeling, and flexible implementation options that leverage QuickBooks for your accounting." Minotaur is aimed at meat, dairy and other food processors, has its own general ledger, AP and AR, and tracks lot, serial and expiry dates; none of that is on this record.

What we still want to confirm
We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.
- Get pricing: no price is published, and the plan options section on the product page is only a video, so this needs a sales quote. QuickBooks is confirmed as required, but its cost is Intuit's pricing, not CAI's.
- Establish whether expiry dates are tracked as dates or only as stock age. The Food Connex page says only "Track inventory by lot, monitor aging"; expiry dates are stated for the sister product Minotaur, not Food Connex. Needs a demo or the vendor's confirmation.
Still unknown: produces dated buy/make suggestions, capacity planning, multi-level bom, recipes & formulas, routings & operations, api, webhooks, mcp support, csv export, full data export.
