Aptean Process Manufacturing ERP

by Aptean

Batch / process manufacturingProprietary SaaS✓ Verified

Process manufacturing ERP sold in two editions, Ross for recipe and formula makers generally and ProcessPro for chemical, nutraceutical and cannabis. Formulas carry full version and revision control, and material planning is described as factoring in supply, demand and forecasts.

Why it is classified this way

We call this a Batch / process manufacturing product. Built around recipes or formulas, batch runs, and lot genealogy. May or may not include full time-phased planning.

It is not labeled Full MRP because we have not verified that it nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming; explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials; uses lead times or required dates; and produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations. That is a statement about the evidence we found, not a claim that the product is weak, see the capability table and the sources below.

The six Full MRP tests, and how Aptean Process Manufacturing ERP does on each (2 of 6)
  1. YesIt represents a bill of materials, recipe, or formula.Evidence: aptean.com › Ross process manufacturing erp(opens in a new tab); aptean.com › Process pro(opens in a new tab)
  2. YesIt accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule.Evidence: aptean.com › Process pro(opens in a new tab)
  3. PartialIt nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming. Not established. Only partly shown: the evidence covers some of this but not all of it, so the test is not established.
  4. UnknownIt explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials. Not established. No evidence found yet.
  5. PartialIt uses lead times or required dates. Not established. Only partly shown: the evidence covers some of this but not all of it, so the test is not established.
  6. PartialIt produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations. Not established. Only partly shown: the evidence covers some of this but not all of it, so the test is not established.

These rules are applied identically to every product and enforced at build time, a record cannot be published as Full MRP unless all six pass with a source attached. Read the methodology.

Best for

  • Formula makers who need version and revision history on a recipe, not just the current version
  • Chemical, nutraceutical and cannabis manufacturers, which the ProcessPro edition targets directly
  • Shops needing certificates of analysis generated from the formula rather than assembled by hand

Not a fit when

  • Anyone needing a published price, since both editions are quote only
  • Discrete manufacturers, since the product deliberately handles what BOM structures cannot
  • Very small shops, given the enterprise vendor and implementation-led sales process

Pricing facts

What it costs to do manufacturing in this product.

No published price

This vendor does not publish pricing, so you cannot compare it against anything here without contacting them. We will not estimate a figure.

What moves the real bill

  • No published price. You have to contact the vendor, which usually means a sales call.

Pricing detail

No published pricing on either edition's page; both carry a request pricing call to action. Establish which edition you are quoted for, because Ross and ProcessPro are priced separately even though they are one product line. Their 2021 datasheets show two different systems. ProcessPro is "Built on the proven strength of Microsoft technologies (.NET, SOA and SQL Server)" and includes its own payroll, HR, field service, a B2B web portal and project costing. Ross puts more weight on commodity-based and what-if costing, a sales portal, supply chain planning and mobile production management.

Checked on September 18, 2026. No first-party pricing page recorded. Prices change. Check before you buy.

Planning

CapabilityFindingWhat we found
Accepts dated demandYou can tell it what is due and when, sales orders with dates, a forecast, or a production schedule.YesMaterial requirements planning "factors in supply, demand and forecasts", so forecast is an accepted input.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Nets against stock on handIt subtracts what you already have before telling you to buy more.YesThe same planning is described as factoring in supply as well as demand, which is netting against what you hold and expect.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Counts incoming ordersIt knows about purchase orders and production orders already placed, so it does not tell you to order twice.PartialThe Ross datasheet offers "projected inventory balances in the future based on supply and demand", which implies incoming supply is counted. Partial because open purchase and production orders are not named as part of that supply. Uses lead timesIt works backwards from when you need something to when you must order or start it, using supplier and production lead times.PartialThe ProcessPro edition's 2021 datasheet describes Production Planning as "An extension of MRP that provides features and generates reports for optimizing production management, capacity, and material allocation while also accounting for production limitations and lead time." Lead time is an input, but nothing public says it moves a suggested order or start date earlier. The Ross datasheet does not mention lead time.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Produces dated buy/make suggestionsThe output is an actionable list with dates, order this much by this date, start this batch on this date.PartialPlanning and scheduling are automated, but no public page or datasheet describes dated instructions as the output, and the customer education center that might show an MRP screen needs a login.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Production capabilities, with our finding and its source for each.
CapabilityFindingWhat we found
Bill of materialsA list of the parts and quantities needed to make one of something.PartialRoss is described as handling "recipe- and formula-based manufacturing processes that traditional bill of material structures cannot", so the formula is the structure rather than a BOM.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Multi-level BOMSub-assemblies inside assemblies, a part that is itself made from other parts, nested as deep as you need.UnknownNot yet researched. We would need: documentation of nested or multi-level bom structures, not just a flat component list.Know the answer?
Recipes & formulasBatch-style production by weight, volume, or percentage, including scaling a batch up or down.Yes"Develop and manage formulas and recipes with full version and revision control." Shop-floor trackingOperators report progress, time, and completions as the work happens.PartialThe Ross datasheet's data collection feature aims to "provide instant shop floor visibility with real-time data collection", and it lists mobile production management. Expiry & shelf lifeBest-before dates on materials and finished goods, with warnings before they lapse.PartialOnly the Ross edition names expiry handling. Its product page says: "Manage inventory with full lot control, expiration tracking and customer-specific shelf-life requirements." Its datasheet promises to "Increase inventory turns and reduce expired and short shelf life inventory". Neither describes advance warnings, and the ProcessPro page and datasheet do not mention expiry or shelf life at all.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Editorial notes and cautions

Things we would want a friend to know before buying.

  • Aptean markets Ross Edition and ProcessPro Edition as one Process Manufacturing ERP, so this is one record. Its separate Food and Beverage ERP is a different product built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and has its own record here.

Evidence and verification

✓ VerifiedLast checked October 9, 2026 · 68% of capability fields resolved · 100% of those carry a source

Merged from two research-queue records after Aptean's own naming showed Ross and ProcessPro to be editions of one product. Capabilities read from the ProcessPro edition page, which is the more specific of the two, and from the 2021 datasheets for both editions. The planning claim is stronger than most here, naming supply, demand and forecasts, and the ProcessPro datasheet adds lead time, but nothing public shows dated output.

What we still want to confirm

We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.

  • Still open: pricing for either edition. Both edition pages and the process-manufacturing hub offer only a Request Pricing form, so it needs a sales quote.
  • Still open: whether MRP output carries dates. The ProcessPro datasheet says planning accounts for lead time, but no public page shows an MRP output screen and the customer education center needs a login, so confirming an order-by date needs a demo.
  • Still open: whether either edition warns before stock expires. No public page describes it; it would need the product docs behind the customer portal, or a demo.

Still unknown: multi-level bom, routings & operations, ecommerce connection, api, webhooks, mcp support, csv export, full data export.
