BatchBuddy

by BatchBuddy

Batch / process manufacturingProprietary SaaSPartially verified

GMP batch-record software for supplement, cosmetics and food makers. Versioned formulas with potency scaling, FIFO lots with expiry, a shortage-list MRP that counts open purchase orders, electronic batch records, CAPA and recall drills, sold on four published plans from $149 a month.

Why it is classified this way

We call this a Batch / process manufacturing product. Built around recipes or formulas, batch runs, and lot genealogy. May or may not include full time-phased planning.

It is not labeled Full MRP because we have not verified that it uses lead times or required dates; and produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations. That is a statement about the evidence we found, not a claim that the product is weak, see the capability table and the sources below.

The six Full MRP tests, and how BatchBuddy does on each (4 of 6)
  1. YesIt represents a bill of materials, recipe, or formula.Evidence: batchbuddy.ai(opens in a new tab); batchbuddy.ai › Faq(opens in a new tab)
  2. YesIt accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule.Evidence: batchbuddy.ai › Mrp(opens in a new tab); batchbuddy.ai › Faq(opens in a new tab)
  3. YesIt nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming.Evidence: batchbuddy.ai › Mrp(opens in a new tab)
  4. YesIt explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials.Evidence: batchbuddy.ai › Mrp(opens in a new tab)The MRP turns scheduled runs into ingredient requirements per formula: it "rolls up every scheduled production run, compares requirements against your on-hand inventory and open POs", adjusting each quantity for the lot's measured potency. Professional and above.
  5. PartialIt uses lead times or required dates. Not established. Only partly shown: the evidence covers some of this but not all of it, so the test is not established.
  6. PartialIt produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations. Not established. Only partly shown: the evidence covers some of this but not all of it, so the test is not established.

These rules are applied identically to every product and enforced at build time, a record cannot be published as Full MRP unless all six pass with a source attached. Read the methodology.

Best for

  • Supplement and nutraceutical makers working to 21 CFR Part 111 who need batch records, COAs and a recall trace
  • Small cosmetics and food producers who want FIFO lots, expiry blocking and recall drills without a sales call
  • Co-packers who want a client portal showing order and batch status without exposing formulas

Not a fit when

  • Makers on a tight budget who need lot traceability: full traceability and MRP start at the $349 Professional plan
  • Anyone who needs an API on a small plan; the REST API and webhooks are only on the $1,499 Enterprise plan
  • Discrete or assembly shops; everything is built around formulas, potency and batches

Pricing detail

Four plans billed monthly: Formulator $149 ("Individual workspace", up to 100 formulations), Professional $349 (up to 5 members), Manufacturer $749 (up to 15 members) and Enterprise $1,499 (unlimited members, REST API and webhooks). Client Portal is a $49 a month add-on on Professional and included above it. The annual toggle reads "Save 20%", but the cards say "Save $298 with annual billing" on Formulator, which is two months of $149, not 20%; the toggle did not change the displayed prices when we tried it, so only monthly prices are modeled. Gating that matters: MRP, "Full lot traceability & recall readiness", and the QuickBooks and Shopify integrations start at Professional; electronic batch records, CAPA and OOS start at Manufacturer; the API, webhooks and the AI assistant are Enterprise only. The page shows "$" with no currency code; we read it as US dollars.

Editorial notes and cautions

Things we would want a friend to know before buying.

  • The $149 Formulator plan is described as an "Individual workspace". MRP, full lot traceability, recall drills, QuickBooks and Shopify start at Professional ($349), and electronic batch records, CAPA and OOS at Manufacturer ($749).
  • The REST API, webhooks and AI assistant are Enterprise only, at $1,499 a month.
  • The annual toggle promises "Save 20%", but the per-plan savings shown equal two months, about 17%. Confirm the annual price before paying upfront.
  • The site's own pages disagree on whether electronic batch records start at Manufacturer or Enterprise. The pricing card and the EBR page both say Manufacturer.
  • There is no public help center; every claim here comes from marketing pages, the FAQ, the API reference and the terms.

Alternatives to BatchBuddy

An alternative is always an alternative for a reason. There is no universal replacement.

  • StocksmithLower costSimpler for makers

Stocksmith gives a small maker lot numbers and real COGS from $99 a month without GMP batch-record controls, which is enough for many soap, candle and food sellers who do not answer to 21 CFR Part 111.

  • KatanaStronger true MRP

Katana documents dated replenishment from lead times and committed stock, which BatchBuddy's 30-day shortage list does not; it lacks BatchBuddy's GMP batch records and its paid pricing is now quote-only.

Evidence and verification

Partially verifiedLast checked October 9, 2026 · 80% of capability fields resolved · 100% of those carry a source

Why this record is not Verified. Every claim rests on marketing pages, the FAQ, the API reference and the terms; BatchBuddy publishes no help center, and its own pages disagree on plan gating for batch records. It stays Partially verified until documentation or a trial confirms the planning and traceability claims.

Pages were read as raw HTML and in headless Chrome on 2026-10-09. BatchBuddy (batchbuddy.ai) is a different product from batchbuddy.io, which is in alpha. There is no public help center, so feature claims rest on the homepage, feature pages, FAQ, the Enterprise API reference and the terms of service.

What we still want to confirm

We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.

  • Confirm whether a formula can use another formula as an ingredient (multi-level).
  • Confirm whether lead times exist on ingredients or suppliers and whether the shortage list gives order-by dates.
  • Confirm whether CSV export exists outside the COA and recall audit packages, and whether a full self-serve export is available.
  • Confirm the annual price; the toggle says 20% but the savings shown are about 17%.
  • Confirm whether serial numbers, routings tied to equipment, or capacity checks exist.
  • Confirm the user limit on the Formulator plan; it is described only as an "Individual workspace".

Still unknown: capacity planning, multi-level bom, serial numbers, mcp support, csv export.
