Vicinity
by Vicinity Software
Formula and batch manufacturing that runs on top of QuickBooks Online or Microsoft Dynamics, sold in three flavours: Vicinity Chem, Vicinity Food and Vicinity Brew. It is an extension rather than a system of its own, so the price you are quoted sits on top of the accounting system underneath, which you must already hold or buy.
Why it is classified this way
We call this a Batch / process manufacturing product. Built around recipes or formulas, batch runs, and lot genealogy. May or may not include full time-phased planning.
It is not labeled Full MRP because we have not verified that it explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials; and uses lead times or required dates. That is a statement about the evidence we found, not a claim that the product is weak, see the capability table and the sources below.
The six Full MRP tests, and how Vicinity does on each (4 of 6)
- YesIt represents a bill of materials, recipe, or formula.Evidence: Vendor video, 2021, at 2:17(opens in a new tab); vicinitysoftware.com(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule.Evidence: Vendor video, 2024, at 0:39(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming.Evidence: Vendor video, 2024, at 1:28(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2024, at 1:36(opens in a new tab)
- UnknownIt explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials. Not established. No evidence found yet.
- PartialIt uses lead times or required dates. Not established. Only partly shown: the evidence covers some of this but not all of it, so the test is not established.
- YesIt produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations.Evidence: Vendor video, 2024, at 1:43(opens in a new tab)
These rules are applied identically to every product and enforced at build time, a record cannot be published as Full MRP unless all six pass with a source attached. Read the methodology.
Best for
- Manufacturers already running QuickBooks Online or Microsoft Dynamics who need formula and batch handling on top
- Breweries, food makers and chemical shops wanting industry-shaped functionality rather than generic ERP
Not a fit when
- Anyone running neither QuickBooks Online nor Microsoft Dynamics, because Vicinity needs one of them underneath
- Shops wanting a single system with a single bill
- Anyone needing published pricing, since neither half of the cost is published
Pricing facts
What it costs to do manufacturing in this product.
No published price
This vendor does not publish pricing, so you cannot compare it against anything here without contacting them. We will not estimate a figure.
What moves the real bill
- Required add-ons. The manufacturing capability needs: A host accounting system, licensed separately: QuickBooks Online or Microsoft Dynamics (NAV, GP, SL or BC). Neither price is published by this vendor..
- No published price. You have to contact the vendor, which usually means a sales call.
Pricing detail
No published pricing, and the number you would want is not one number. Vicinity runs on top of either QuickBooks Online or Microsoft Dynamics, so budget that license as well. Three editions exist, Vicinity Chem, Vicinity Food and Vicinity Brew, and none of their sites says whether they are priced differently.

Planning
Working out what to buy or make, and when.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Accepts dated demandYou can tell it what is due and when, sales orders with dates, a forecast, or a production schedule. | Yes | In a 2024 vendor video on Vicinity's own MRP, the presenter says "it looks at sales orders purchase orders batch tickets quantity on hand all those kind of things and it makes suggestions to buy something or make suggestions to make something." Planned purchase orders can then be sent to a Business Central requisition worksheet.Source: Vendor video, 2024, at 0:39(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Nets against stock on handIt subtracts what you already have before telling you to buy more. | Yes | The same 2024 vendor video shows the MRP screen: "when I generated MRP it looked at quantity on hand and it starts to Nets against it quantity required".Source: Vendor video, 2024, at 1:28(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Counts incoming ordersIt knows about purchase orders and production orders already placed, so it does not tell you to order twice. | Yes | In the 2024 vendor video, MRP nets the quantity required (batches) against supply such as purchase orders: "quantity required ... which would be batches ... Supply might be purchase orders Etc". Open purchase orders count as incoming supply; the video does not show whether open production batches also count.Source: Vendor video, 2024, at 1:36(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Uses lead timesIt works backwards from when you need something to when you must order or start it, using supplier and production lead times. | Partial | The 2024 vendor video shows planned orders dated ahead of the need date ("on this date you need to place in order so that it's here by this date"), which implies a lead-time offset. No lead-time setting is shown, so this is read from the screen rather than documented.Source: Vendor video, 2024, at 1:43(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Produces dated buy/make suggestionsThe output is an actionable list with dates, order this much by this date, start this batch on this date. | Yes | Planned orders carry an order date and a need date. From the 2024 vendor video: "it's saying on this date you need to place in order so that it's here by this date that's a suggestion".Source: Vendor video, 2024, at 1:43(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Capacity planningChecks whether your people and machines can do the work in the time available. | Partial | Scheduling is named as a functional area with no detail on how it constrains.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: vicinitysoftware.com(opens in a new tab)Question this |
Production
Recipes, bills of materials, and running the work.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Bill of materialsA list of the parts and quantities needed to make one of something. | Yes | In a 2021 vendor demo (2021 video), formulas sit on batch tickets and packed products get their own packaging bill: "each of those container sizes can have its own packaging bill of material associated with it".Source: Vendor video, 2021, at 2:17(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Multi-level BOMSub-assemblies inside assemblies, a part that is itself made from other parts, nested as deep as you need. | Yes | A 2021 vendor demo (2021 video) shows two levels: "we consumed five purchased raw materials and put it into 10 produced intermediates", which were then packed into finished goods. Deeper nesting was not shown.Source: Vendor video, 2021, at 1:49(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Recipes & formulasBatch-style production by weight, volume, or percentage, including scaling a batch up or down. | Yes | "Vicinity Software extends Microsoft Dynamics ERP with industry-specific capabilities for formula- and batch-driven manufacturers", with production built around formulas.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: vicinitysoftware.com(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Work / manufacturing ordersA record authorising and tracking the making of a specific quantity. | Yes | Production runs on batch tickets, the vendor's name for a production order. A 2021 vendor demo (2021 video) describes one: "a batch ticket is our production document where we can show the formula or the ingredients going into the batch as well as whatever is being produced".Source: vicinitysoftware.com(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2021, at 0:40(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Routings & operationsThe ordered steps a product goes through, and which machine or station does each one. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation of operation sequences or routings attached to production.Know the answer? |
| Shop-floor trackingOperators report progress, time, and completions as the work happens. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation of a shop-floor, operator, or terminal interface for reporting production.Know the answer? |
| Quality controlsChecks, tests, holds, and non-conformance records tied to production or receiving. | Partial | Quality and compliance are named functional areas without described workflows.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: vicinitysoftware.com(opens in a new tab)Question this |
Inventory & traceability
Knowing what you hold and being able to trace it.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Batch & lot traceabilityWhich incoming material lots went into which finished batch, and where those finished goods went. | Yes | The vendor states that the formula and packaging "has to be lot tracked and able to be tied from raw material to finished goods and back again." A 2021 vendor demo (2021 video) shows this is Vicinity's own: "i'm going to do a lot trace and i'm going to trace upward in other words from the raw material to the finished goods", following a raw lot through an intermediate and finished lots to the customer invoice.Source: vicinitysoftware.com › Batch processing software features you must have if you u…(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2021, at 3:24(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2021, at 0:32(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Expiry & shelf lifeBest-before dates on materials and finished goods, with warnings before they lapse. | Yes | "Calculate lot expiration date automatically for produced items based on the item shelf life". The same page promises to "Notify as lots are due to expired" and covers lot rotation. Because Vicinity also runs on QuickBooks Online, which has no lot expiry, this is Vicinity's own functionality. It is stated for VicinityFood and not confirmed for Chem or Brew.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: vicinityfood.com › Planning software(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Serial numbersUnique identifiers on individual units, for warranty or field service. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation of serial number tracking on individual units.Know the answer? |

Costing is not set out as a capability on the page.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: vicinitysoftware.com(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| PurchasingRaising and tracking purchase orders to suppliers from inside the system. | Yes | The Food edition's supply chain page says: "Identify and automate PO suggestions on any necessary materials needed to meet anticipated demand, with Material Requirements Planning (MRP)". Blanket purchase orders are supported, but the purchase orders themselves live in the host system, Dynamics or QuickBooks. This is from a marketing page.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Editorial notes and cautions
Things we would want a friend to know before buying.
- This is an extension, not a standalone system. We publish it because a product whose advertised price excludes the system you must run underneath is exactly the kind of gap this site exists to show. Read it as an add-on to a QuickBooks Online or Dynamics decision rather than an alternative to one.
Evidence and verification
Read from the vendor's own sites and from vendor videos. The edition sites say each edition runs on either QuickBooks Online or Microsoft Dynamics, so the host system is recorded as a required add-on, with no single product named, because it is the largest cost in the decision and neither half is published. A 2024 vendor video shows Vicinity's own MRP netting batch requirements against on-hand stock and purchase orders and sending planned purchases to Business Central. A 2021 vendor lot trace demo shows lots consumed and produced on Vicinity batch tickets: "all activity raw material usage finished good production in vicinity food happens via batch entry". Shelf-life expiry comes from the VicinityFood planning page. Costing rests only on customer quotes on the vendor's home page.

What we still want to confirm
We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.
- Get pricing for Vicinity and for the host system it runs on (QuickBooks Online or Microsoft Dynamics), and record the combined figure. Neither Vicinity nor the edition sites publish a price, so this needs a quote.
- Confirm whether the three editions differ in price or only in configuration. The VicinityChem, VicinityFood and VicinityBrew sites publish no prices or packaging terms, so this needs a sales contact.
Still unknown: routings & operations, shop-floor tracking, serial numbers, ecommerce connection, api, webhooks, mcp support, csv export, full data export.
