webERP
by webERP community (project led by Tim Schofield)
An open-source, browser-based accounting and ERP system in PHP, with a double-entry ledger, inventory with lot and serial control, work orders, quality testing and a regenerative MRP that plans level by level and dates orders by lead time. Self-hosted under GPL v2; there is no vendor-run service.
Why it is classified this way
We call this a Manufacturing ERP product. A broad business system (accounting, sales, purchasing) with a substantial manufacturing or planning module attached.
This product meets our Full MRP tests, but we classify it by its center of gravity rather than its planning engine alone. The capability table below shows the detail.
The six Full MRP tests, and how webERP does on each (6 of 6)
- YesIt represents a bill of materials, recipe, or formula.Evidence: weberp.org › Features(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule.Evidence: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming.Evidence: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials.Evidence: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)"If that part has parts below it in the bom structure, MRP also creates an mrprequirements record for the lower level parts based on the net requirement for the top level part times the quantity per assembly for the component, with a schedule date based on the lead time for the part."
- YesIt uses lead times or required dates.Evidence: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations.Evidence: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab); github.com › ManualManufacturing(opens in a new tab)
These rules are applied identically to every product and enforced at build time, a record cannot be published as Full MRP unless all six pass with a source attached. Read the methodology.
Best for
- Small manufacturers who can self-host and want real MRP without a license fee
- Businesses that want accounting, inventory and manufacturing in one open-source system
- Shops that need lot or serial control with test results and certificates of analysis
Not a fit when
- Anyone who needs capacity planning or scheduling: the project says it is not available
- Buyers who want a hosted service with vendor support
- Shopify or marketplace sellers who need a ready-made store connector

Manufacturing capability
20 of 25 fields resolved. "Unknown" means we have not found first-party evidence. It is not a No.
Planning
Working out what to buy or make, and when.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Accepts dated demandYou can tell it what is due and when, sales orders with dates, a forecast, or a production schedule. | Yes | MRP takes "open sales orders, worequirements records for open work orders, parts below their reorder levels, and demands entered in the mrpdemands table"; a master schedule demand has a "part number, quantity, and due date".Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Nets against stock on handIt subtracts what you already have before telling you to buy more. | Yes | "MRP subtracts all demands from the supplies for each part", with supply built from "the current quantity on hand, open purchase orders, and work orders".Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Counts incoming ordersIt knows about purchase orders and production orders already placed, so it does not tell you to order twice. | Yes | "An mrpsupplies table is created based on the current quantity on hand, open purchase orders, and work orders."Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Uses lead timesIt works backwards from when you need something to when you must order or start it, using supplier and production lead times. | Yes | "Lead Time can be entered. MRP uses this in scheduling recommended orders", working from "a part's need (required) date minus its lead time" against a production calendar.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Produces dated buy/make suggestionsThe output is an actionable list with dates, order this much by this date, start this batch on this date. | Yes | "MRP Suggested Purchase Orders and MRP Suggested Work Orders show the orders that MRP has determined should be created", and "MRP Reschedules Required" lists orders whose due dates need moving. MRP does not create the orders itself.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab); github.com › ManualManufacturing(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Capacity planningChecks whether your people and machines can do the work in the time available. | No | The features page states "capacity requirements planning and MRP II functionality is NOT currently available in webERP".Reviewed October 9, 2026. Production
Recipes, bills of materials, and running the work.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |

| Bill of materialsA list of the parts and quantities needed to make one of something. | Yes | "Multi-level bill of materials - with error trapping to prevent recursive BOMs."Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: weberp.org › Features(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Multi-level BOMSub-assemblies inside assemblies, a part that is itself made from other parts, nested as deep as you need. | Yes | Multi-level BOMs, and phantom bills that "automatically explode into components when a parent work order is created". MRP assigns each part a level from the BOM structure.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: weberp.org › Features(opens in a new tab); github.com › ManualMRP(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Recipes & formulasBatch-style production by weight, volume, or percentage, including scaling a batch up or down. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation of recipe or formula records, ideally with batch scaling.Know the answer? |
| Work / manufacturing ordersA record authorising and tracking the making of a specific quantity. | Yes | "Issues to works orders and receipts of finished goods from work orders integrated to inventory and GL", with optional backflushing and multiple outputs for by-products.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: weberp.org › Features(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Routings & operationsThe ordered steps a product goes through, and which machine or station does each one. | Partial | Work centers are maintained, with a location and an overhead account, and labour can be issued to work orders. The manual describes no sequence of operations per item.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: github.com › ManualManufacturing(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Shop-floor trackingOperators report progress, time, and completions as the work happens. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation of a shop-floor, operator, or terminal interface for reporting production.Know the answer? |
| Quality controlsChecks, tests, holds, and non-conformance records tied to production or receiving. | Yes | The Quality module captures "actual test results on a Lot to Lot or Serial number basis" and produces product specifications and certificates of analysis; QA samples can be logged automatically on purchase and work order receipts.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Editorial notes and cautions
Things we would want a friend to know before buying.
- MRP suggests purchase and work orders and reschedules, but does not create them; someone turns the suggestions into orders.
- The manual cited is the one in the repository at the v5.0.1 release. The website's PDF manual is for 4.15.2.
Evidence and verification
Researched 2026-09-19 from weberp.org, the features page and the user manual in the repository at the v5.0.1 tag (released 2026-01-01; the repository was last pushed 2026-09-18). Quotes read from the manual HTML, not a summary.

What we still want to confirm
We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.
- Check the new forecasting module (announced 2026-03-19) once it is in a release.
- Check expiry dates on lots, recipe or formula handling, and shop-floor reporting.
- Check whether webSHOP or any third-party module connects to Shopify or WooCommerce.
Still unknown: recipes & formulas, shop-floor tracking, expiry & shelf life, webhooks, mcp support.
