Axelor Open Suite
by Axelor
An open-core ERP from France whose AGPL-licensed suite includes manufacturing orders, nested BOMs, finite-capacity scheduling, MRP with dated proposals, lot and serial tracking and its own accounting. Paid Pro and Enterprise licenses add support, updates and extra modules.
Why it is classified this way
We call this a Manufacturing ERP product. A broad business system (accounting, sales, purchasing) with a substantial manufacturing or planning module attached.
This product meets our Full MRP tests, but we classify it by its center of gravity rather than its planning engine alone. The capability table below shows the detail.
The six Full MRP tests, and how Axelor Open Suite does on each (6 of 6)
- YesIt represents a bill of materials, recipe, or formula.Evidence: docs.axelor.com › Nomenclature(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule.Evidence: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming.Evidence: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials.Evidence: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)MRP "uses bills of materials, inventory status, and the master production schedule to calculate component requirements"; a production proposal means "the system has sought to manufacture products and therefore needs the components", with levels from component (2) to finished product (0).
- YesIt uses lead times or required dates.Evidence: docs.axelor.com › Product file(opens in a new tab); docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations.Evidence: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)
These rules are applied identically to every product and enforced at build time, a record cannot be published as Full MRP unless all six pass with a source attached. Read the methodology.
Best for
- Manufacturers who want open-source ERP with real MRP, capacity scheduling and accounting in one system
- Teams with the technical staff to self-host Community, or ten or more users for Pro
- European companies that care where their data is hosted
Not a fit when
- Small teams wanting a supported product: Pro starts at 10 users (about €350 a month)
- Buyers who want Shopify or EDI in the free edition; those are paid Pro and Enterprise modules

What moves the real bill
- Priced per user. The monthly figure multiplies by every person who needs an account.
- Minimum 10 users. You cannot buy fewer seats than this, even if fewer people need access.
- Annual billing assumed. The advertised rate requires paying for a year up front. Monthly billing costs more.

Manufacturing capability

Planning
Working out what to buy or make, and when.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Accepts dated demandYou can tell it what is due and when, sales orders with dates, a forecast, or a production schedule. | Yes | MRP filters include customer orders and sales forecasts, and "A forecast generates a production order proposal." Master production schedule proposals also feed it.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Nets against stock on handIt subtracts what you already have before telling you to buy more. | Yes | "The system takes the current available stock and processes the various work in progress (Purchases/Sales/WBS)." Proposals are issued when stock would fall below zero or below a stock rule's minimum.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Counts incoming ordersIt knows about purchase orders and production orders already placed, so it does not tell you to order twice. | Yes | Black lines are "available stock/firm purchases/firm sales/sales forecasts"; firm purchases and existing manufacturing orders are counted before new proposals are made.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Uses lead timesIt works backwards from when you need something to when you must order or start it, using supplier and production lead times. | Yes | Supplier delivery time on the product "is taken into account in the calculation of requirements when purchase proposals are made", and manufacturing proposals sit earlier than the demand by "the time scheduled for manufacturing the product".Reviewed October 9, 2026. | Produces dated buy/make suggestionsThe output is an actionable list with dates, order this much by this date, start this batch on this date. | Yes | Results are "grouped by product and with a due date"; blue lines are purchase and manufacturing order proposals that generate draft supplier quotations or production orders.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.axelor.com › CBN stock rules(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Capacity planningChecks whether your people and machines can do the work in the time available. | Yes | Capacity can be "Finite" or "Infinite": in finite capacity "resources are limited and two operations cannot be scheduled simultaneously".Source: docs.axelor.com › Capacity(opens in a new tab)Question this |

| Multi-level BOMSub-assemblies inside assemblies, a part that is itself made from other parts, nested as deep as you need. | Yes | "If your selected component is a semi-finished product, you can select its associated BOM. These BOM nestings generate a tree view."Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.axelor.com › Nomenclature(opens in a new tab)Question this |

About the licence
The Axelor Open Suite repository, including its production and supply-chain (MRP) modules, is published under AGPL-3.0 (read at release v9.1.8). The Pro and Enterprise offers add a commercial license and extra modules that are documented separately as "Pro & Enterprise Modules" (for example Production pro, Shopify and EDI). The pricing page says Community includes "Essential modules" without listing them.

Editorial notes and cautions
Things we would want a friend to know before buying.
- The pricing page says Community has "Essential modules" and Pro has "All business modules" without listing which are which. The manufacturing and MRP modules are in the AGPL repository and the open-source documentation, but confirm what a Community install includes before planning around it.
- Pro and Enterprise prices are per user with 10- and 20-user minimums. Hosting and implementation are not priced on the page.
Evidence and verification
Researched 2026-09-19 from the pricing page (annual and monthly figures read from the page's data), the Axelor Open Suite documentation and the repository LICENSE at release v9.1.8. Documentation pages are from the current 8.5 manual, with a few from 6.5 and 8.3 where the current page was not found.

What we still want to confirm
We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.
- List which modules the Community edition includes, and what Production pro adds.
- Confirm webhooks, CSV export and full data export in the documentation.
- Price hosting and implementation, which the pricing page does not show.
Still unknown: recipes & formulas, webhooks, mcp support, csv export, full data export.
