Masto Control
by Masto Control Oy

Why it is classified this way
We call this a Light manufacturing product. Has bills of materials or recipes, consumes stock when you build, and tracks production, but time-phased planning is not verified.
It is not labeled Full MRP because we have not verified that it accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule; nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming; explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials; uses lead times or required dates; and produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations. That is a statement about the evidence we found, not a claim that the product is weak, see the capability table and the sources below.

Best for
- Craft makers in the EU who want euro pricing, VAT handled on receipts and an interface in their own language
- Makers who need true lot cost, with delivery folded into material cost and labor priced by the minute
- Etsy sellers who want orders imported and finished-goods and material stock drawn down automatically
Not a fit when
- Shopify or WooCommerce sellers who need a live storefront sync today; Etsy is the only connected channel
- Anyone who needs an API on a small budget, since API and webhooks are only on the quote-priced Enterprise tier
- Shops that need recall-grade lot tracing from supplier lot to customer order

Manufacturing capability
19 of 25 fields resolved. "Unknown" means we have not found first-party evidence. It is not a No.
Planning
Working out what to buy or make, and when.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Accepts dated demandYou can tell it what is due and when, sales orders with dates, a forecast, or a production schedule. | Partial | The Planning tab holds dated production plans. The finished goods article says: "The Planning tab is a calendar of upcoming production plans." Sales orders carry a due date, but only for invoicing. These are planned runs you enter, not sales demand or a forecast that drives a calculation.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Finished goods and items(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Sales orders(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Nets against stock on handIt subtracts what you already have before telling you to buy more. | Partial | Planned production is checked against stock. The finished goods article says the Planning tab "shows the materials and components required across everything planned, flags shortages (up to 50% short / over 50% short)". It flags shortages; it does not work out what to buy.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Finished goods and items(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Counts incoming ordersIt knows about purchase orders and production orders already placed, so it does not tell you to order twice. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation showing open purchase or production orders included in the supply picture.Know the answer? |
| Uses lead timesIt works backwards from when you need something to when you must order or start it, using supplier and production lead times. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation showing lead time fields that shift a suggested order or start date.Know the answer? |
| Produces dated buy/make suggestionsThe output is an actionable list with dates, order this much by this date, start this batch on this date. | Partial | Each material has a minimum stock level. The materials article says that when available stock drops below it, "the material is flagged on the dashboard and (if enabled) triggers a low-stock email". These are threshold alerts with no order date or quantity.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Materials(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Capacity planningChecks whether your people and machines can do the work in the time available. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation of work-center or resource capacity being compared against load.Know the answer? |
Production
Recipes, bills of materials, and running the work.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Bill of materialsA list of the parts and quantities needed to make one of something. | Yes | The docs say: "A BOM card is the recipe for something you make — what materials and/or components go into it, in what quantity, and what it costs." Each line carries a loss coefficient for waste.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Bom cards(opens in a new tab); mastocontrol.com(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Multi-level BOMSub-assemblies inside assemblies, a part that is itself made from other parts, nested as deep as you need. | Yes | The BOM cards article says: "A product's composition can reference both materials and other item cards, so multi-level BOMs (a product made of components, each made of materials) are supported."Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Bom cards(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Recipes & formulasBatch-style production by weight, volume, or percentage, including scaling a batch up or down. | Yes | Recipes are versioned BOM cards, and a version used in production locks. The docs say: "Once a version has been used in actual production, its composition and key fields lock." Quantities are per unit; the homepage says "A batch of six becomes amounts per piece" when a recipe is imported. Percentage-based formulas are not described.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Bom cards(opens in a new tab); mastocontrol.com(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Work / manufacturing ordersA record authorising and tracking the making of a specific quantity. | Yes | The production page lists "Production orders - create, schedule and manage production runs" and says: "Masto Control writes off materials by the BOM amounts automatically when you complete the run." The docs add that each production run "becomes its own batch (lot), with its own cost".Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: mastocontrol.com › Production(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Finished goods and items(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Routings & operationsThe ordered steps a product goes through, and which machine or station does each one. | Partial | A BOM line can carry "An optional manufacturing step label", such as cutting, sewing or finishing, and labor lines can name an operation. We found no ordered operation sequence or work centers.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Bom cards(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Shop-floor trackingOperators report progress, time, and completions as the work happens. | Partial | The production page says: "Each batch records who worked and when." The docs are more careful about labor time: "Nothing times the work for you. The minutes are your own estimate of how long an operation takes — there is no timer and no per-worker time log."Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: mastocontrol.com › Production(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Bom cards(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Quality controlsChecks, tests, holds, and non-conformance records tied to production or receiving. | Partial | Defects and rework are logged. The production page says: "Log defective units separately. Mark items for rework and track their status." The rework docs let you return a batch by component with a return percentage per line. No inspections, test results or holds are described.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: mastocontrol.com › Production(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Finished goods and items(opens in a new tab)Question this |
Inventory & traceability
Knowing what you hold and being able to trace it.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Batch & lot traceabilityWhich incoming material lots went into which finished batch, and where those finished goods went. | Partial | Lots exist on both sides. The materials article says each purchase lot has "its own quantity, cost, purchase date, and optional expiry date" and that consumption takes "the oldest lot first — automatic FIFO"; each production run becomes its own lot. The docs describe this for costing. We found no trace or recall screen that links a material lot to the finished batches and sales it reached.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Materials(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Finished goods and items(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Expiry & shelf lifeBest-before dates on materials and finished goods, with warnings before they lapse. | Yes | Purchase lots carry an "optional expiry date", and a production record registers "the produced quantity, with a production date and optional expiry date". No warning before a date lapses is described.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Materials(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Finished goods and items(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Serial numbersUnique identifiers on individual units, for warranty or field service. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: documentation of serial number tracking on individual units.Know the answer? |
Commerce & accounting
Costs, purchasing, storefronts, and the books.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Product costing & COGSWhat it costs you to make one, and the cost of the goods you sold. | Yes | The docs say: "When a production batch consumes a material, Masto Control takes the oldest lot first and charges the batch at that lot's real cost, not at an average or an estimate." Delivery charges spread over a receipt are folded into lot cost, labor is costed by minutes and an hourly rate, and Reports has "COGS by period".Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Purchases(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Reports(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| PurchasingRaising and tracking purchase orders to suppliers from inside the system. | Yes | Purchases are recorded as buying runs, receipts and lines. The purchases article says: "A buying run (an order) groups everything bought in one go", and each receipt "is marked received when the goods physically arrived, and the buying run shows the tally". There is no step for sending a purchase order to a supplier.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Purchases(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Accounting connectionSends financial data to bookkeeping software, or includes its own general ledger. | Partial | There is no named accounting connector. Reports include a sales ledger, purchase ledger, VAT by rate, payables and receivables for a bookkeeper, and the sales orders article says "an order can be handed to a bookkeeper as it is - the Sales ledger exports exactly that."Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: docs.mastocontrol.com › Reports(opens in a new tab); docs.mastocontrol.com › Sales orders(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Ecommerce connectionPulls orders and pushes stock levels to a storefront or marketplace. | Yes | Etsy is the one connected channel. The docs say: "Masto Control connects to your Etsy shop to keep listing data, prices and stock in step with your workshop inventory, and to import paid Etsy orders as sales." Stock goes to Etsy nightly or on demand. Other channels are manual; Shopify is mentioned in passing in the docs but has no setup article.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Openness & your data
Getting data in, out, and away if you leave.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| APIA documented programming interface so other software can read and write your data. | Partial | The pricing comparison lists "API + webhooks" only under Enterprise, which is quote-priced. No public API documentation was found.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: mastocontrol.com › Pricing(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| WebhooksThe system can notify other software the moment something changes. | Partial | The pricing comparison lists "API + webhooks" only under Enterprise, which is quote-priced. No documentation of event types was found.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: mastocontrol.com › Pricing(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| MCP supportA Model Context Protocol server, letting an AI assistant read or act on this data. Useful, but it has nothing to do with whether the product plans materials. | Unknown | Not yet researched. We would need: a first-party mcp server, or documentation of one.Know the answer? |
| CSV exportYou can get your lists out as spreadsheet files. | Yes | Exports are Excel files rather than CSV. The reports article says: "Every tab has its own Export Excel button, producing a spreadsheet of exactly what's on screen", and materials and BOM cards "can be exported to Excel for offline review".Reviewed October 9, 2026. Editorial notes and cautions
Things we would want a friend to know before buying.
- Prices are in euros and exclude VAT. The €30 Entry plan covers one user; each extra person is a €12 or €15 seat a month, so a team of three on Growth seats pays €60 plus VAT.
- Only Growth seats can use Sales Channels and the Etsy integration; a Core seat has no Sales Channels access.
- Lots are tracked for FIFO costing, but the docs describe no trace or recall screen. Check this before relying on it for cosmetics or food recall records.
Alternatives to Masto Control
An alternative is always an alternative for a reason. There is no universal replacement.
Inventora names Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, Square and others plus QuickBooks, and includes more seats per plan, where Masto Control charges for each extra person.
- KatanaStronger true MRP
Katana documents lead-time based reorder suggestions and a public API; Masto Control flags shortages against planned runs but stops short of dated buying advice.
- StocksmithBetter commerce & accounting connection
Stocksmith connects to more storefronts than Masto Control's single Etsy link and prices in dollars, which suits a US seller selling on Shopify or Amazon as well.
Evidence and verification
Why this record is not Verified. New record from one research pass on 2026-10-09. Held at partially verified until an editor re-reads the cited pages.
Capability evidence comes from the public Docusaurus manual at docs.mastocontrol.com, read in full for production, materials, purchases, sales and reports, plus the pricing and production pages. Quotes were read from the page source, not from a summary.

What we still want to confirm
We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.
- Confirm whether a material lot can be traced forward to the finished batches and sales that consumed it. The docs describe FIFO lots for costing but no trace or recall view.
- Confirm whether expiry dates raise a warning before they lapse. The docs show the date field only.
- Confirm what the Enterprise API and webhooks cover, and whether any API is available below Enterprise. No API reference is published.
- Confirm Shopify support. The docs mention Shopify sync and Shopify orders in passing, but the sales channels article names Etsy as the only connected integration and there is no Shopify setup article.
- Find whether a full account export exists beyond per-screen Excel exports.
Still unknown: counts incoming orders, uses lead times, capacity planning, serial numbers, mcp support, full data export.
