High-value materials, many variants, and one-off or short-run production.
How the work runs
High-value materials in small quantities, often with many variants of the same design, three metals, four stone options, five sizes. Production is short-run or one-off, and a lot of the cost is in labour and in material you cannot afford to lose track of. Precious metal moves in grams and in price; scrap and offcuts have real value and need recovering.
What makes or breaks it
- Variant handling that does not explode your item list. A design in four metals and five sizes is twenty SKUs. Systems that make you create each by hand will bury you.
- Material tracked by weight, at the price you paid. Silver at last month's price is not silver at this month's price, and averaging quietly distorts your margins.
- Scrap and recovery. Offcuts have value. A system that only subtracts material is only half right.
- Made-to-order alongside stock. Most jewellers do both, and need one view of what is committed versus available.
Where people get caught out
Products that cap your material or variant count. Inventora's plans cap materials and variants at 500, 2,000 and 10,000. For a jeweller with many finishes and sizes, that ceiling arrives faster than you expect.
