Odoo
Formerly OpenERP, TinyERP. If you were searching for that name, this is the same product.
by Odoo S.A.
A large modular business suite whose Manufacturing app covers work orders, finite capacity scheduling, a shop-floor tablet interface, quality control and lot genealogy, with a master production schedule and just-in-time replenishment proposals.
Why it is classified this way
We call this a Manufacturing ERP product. A broad business system (accounting, sales, purchasing) with a substantial manufacturing or planning module attached.
This product meets our Full MRP tests, but we classify it by its center of gravity rather than its planning engine alone. The capability table below shows the detail.
The six Full MRP tests, and how Odoo does on each (6 of 6)
- YesIt represents a bill of materials, recipe, or formula.Evidence: odoo.com › Manufacturing(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt accepts dated demand, sales orders, a forecast, or a master production schedule.Evidence: odoo.com › Manufacturing(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt nets that demand against stock on hand and orders already incoming.Evidence: odoo.com › Reordering rules(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2026, at 1:52(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2026, at 2:07(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt explodes requirements through at least one level of the bill of materials.Evidence: odoo.com › Sub assemblies(opens in a new tab)Odoo's multilevel BoM documentation: with the Replenish on Order (MTO) and Manufacture routes on a sub-level product, Odoo "uniquely links sublevel and top-level products, reserving quantities for the confirmed top-level manufacturing order" and creates the child manufacturing orders; zero-minimum reordering rules are the other documented method. Scope: one of those two configurations is needed.
- YesIt uses lead times or required dates.Evidence: odoo.com › Lead times(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2025, at 1:40(opens in a new tab)
- YesIt produces dated buy, make, transfer, release, or reschedule recommendations.Evidence: odoo.com › Manufacturing(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2025, at 1:45(opens in a new tab)
These rules are applied identically to every product and enforced at build time, a record cannot be published as Full MRP unless all six pass with a source attached. Read the methodology.
Best for
- Manufacturers who want production, stock, purchasing, ecommerce and the ledger from one vendor
- Shops needing finite capacity scheduling and a real shop-floor tablet interface
- Technical teams willing to self-host Community and avoid per-seat pricing entirely
Not a fit when
- Solo makers. The app surface is vastly larger than a one-person recipe business needs
- Anyone assuming Community and Enterprise are the same product
- Teams that need the API but only budgeted for the $24.90 Standard tier

Per user
Why the useful price is higher
The One App Free plan gives you Manufacturing alone with unlimited users, which is a real offer. But manufacturing without Inventory, Purchase and Accounting is rarely useful, and the moment you need a second app you are on Standard: $24.90 per user per month billed yearly for the first 12 months, then $31.10. Users added later pay the $31.10 rate.
What moves the real bill
- Priced per user. The monthly figure multiplies by every person who needs an account.
- Annual billing assumed. The advertised rate requires paying for a year up front. Monthly billing costs more.

Pricing detail
Billed yearly: Standard $24.90/user/month and Custom $49.00 for the first 12 months, then $31.10 and $61.00. Billed monthly: Standard $31.10 and Custom $61.10 for the first 12 months, then $38.90 and $76.20. The discount applies only to the users on the initial order. Custom is the tier that adds Odoo Studio, multi-company, external API access, and the option to run on Odoo.sh or on-premise. Note that external API access sits on the top tier, which matters if you plan to integrate. The self-hosted Community edition costs nothing but omits Enterprise-only features. The page also lists a "Light User at US$ 8.90" seat (seen 2026-10-09); the Standard and Custom figures were unchanged on that date.

Planning
Working out what to buy or make, and when.
| Capability | Finding | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Accepts dated demandYou can tell it what is due and when, sales orders with dates, a forecast, or a production schedule. | Yes | "The MPS is perfect for your S&OP meeting, to align objectives of sales people and the manufacturing department." A master production schedule is dated demand by definition.Reviewed October 9, 2026. Source: odoo.com › Manufacturing(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Nets against stock on handIt subtracts what you already have before telling you to buy more. | Yes | Odoo 19's reordering rules documentation: "When forecasted stock falls below this number, a replenishment order for the product is created." The rule works on forecast, not on stock on hand today. A 2026 vendor tutorial shows the arithmetic on screen: "We take our max amount 400 and subtract our forecasted amount 25. And that number is our suggested reorder quantity, which is 375." The forecasted amount is stock on hand plus confirmed incoming, minus confirmed outgoing.Source: odoo.com › Reordering rules(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2026, at 1:52(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Counts incoming ordersIt knows about purchase orders and production orders already placed, so it does not tell you to order twice. | Yes | In a 2026 vendor tutorial on reordering rules, the forecasted quantity the rule uses is explained: "It includes confirmed incoming and outgoing moves. So, if we have sales orders waiting to ship or purchase orders on the way, Odoo factors those in automatically."Source: Vendor video, 2026, at 2:07(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Uses lead timesIt works backwards from when you need something to when you must order or start it, using supplier and production lead times. | Yes | The vendor states: "Lead times are calculated in the order provided above, working backward from the delivery deadline using just-in-time (JIT) logic." Customer, manufacturing and purchase lead times are each described, and Odoo schedules backward from the delivery deadline. Checked 2026-09-14. A 2025 vendor tutorial works an example where a 7-day vendor lead time, a 2-day purchase security lead time and 1 day to purchase add up: "Together, these three lead times give ODU a 10-day planning window."Reviewed September 14, 2026. | Produces dated buy/make suggestionsThe output is an actionable list with dates, order this much by this date, start this batch on this date. | Yes | In a 2025 vendor tutorial, the replenishment report shows a forecasted date and the request for quotation it creates carries an order deadline and an expected arrival date: "Now, when using reordering rules, ODU will remind you to order 10 days before the quantity is expected to drop below the minimum."Source: odoo.com › Manufacturing(opens in a new tab); Vendor video, 2025, at 1:45(opens in a new tab)Question this |
| Capacity planningChecks whether your people and machines can do the work in the time available. | Yes | "Schedule manufacturing orders and plan resources with finite capacity planning", adjustable on a Gantt chart. Odoo's Compare Editions table marks the Manufacturing sub-row "Shopfloor, Control Panel, Scheduling" as Enterprise only, so Community does not include this scheduling.Reviewed October 9, 2026. | Multi-level BOMSub-assemblies inside assemblies, a part that is itself made from other parts, nested as deep as you need. | Yes | The vendor states: "Use a multilevel bill of materials (BoM) when a manufactured product is part of another assembly. This method nests BoMs within other BoMs, organizing complex products while simplifying manufacturing by defining each procurement and production step separately." About the licence
The Community edition is LGPL-3.0, confirmed by reading the repository license file on 13 August 2026: "Odoo is published under the GNU LESSER GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE, Version 3 (LGPLv3)". The Enterprise edition is separately licensed and proprietary. This is open core, not open source, which edition you run changes which features you get.

Editorial notes and cautions
Things we would want a friend to know before buying.
- This is open core, not open source. The Community edition is genuinely LGPL-3.0, but Enterprise features are proprietary and the difference is material. On Odoo's own comparison, Community has Inventory, Manufacturing, Purchase, Maintenance, eCommerce and Invoicing, while the shop-floor tablet, scheduling, PLM, Quality, Barcode and full Accounting are Enterprise only. Establish which edition a consultant is quoting you before signing anything.
- External API access is a Custom-tier feature on the hosted plans, at roughly double the Standard price. If integration is part of your plan, price the Custom tier from the start.
- Per-user pricing on a suite this broad adds up: ten users on Custom is $490 a month on annual billing in the first year and $610 a month after that.
Alternatives to Odoo
An alternative is always an alternative for a reason. There is no universal replacement.
ERPNext does not split its features between a free and a paid edition, which removes the Community-versus-Enterprise question entirely.
Evidence and verification
License read directly from the repository file rather than inferred. Production capabilities are well sourced. The replenishment maths, including how vendor and security lead times set order dates, is shown in 2025 and 2026 vendor tutorial videos. The Community versus Enterprise split comes from Odoo's Compare Editions table: the Manufacturing sub-row "Shopfloor, Control Panel, Scheduling", PLM, Quality, Barcode and full Accounting are ticked for Enterprise only. The master production schedule and subcontracting are not itemized there.

What we still want to confirm
We publish our gaps rather than hiding them. If you can point us at a first-party page for any of these, we will update the record and credit the correction.
- Confirm whether the master production schedule and subcontracting are Enterprise-only. Odoo's Compare Editions table does not itemize them.
Still unknown: recipes & formulas, mcp support.
